How to find your ideal target market

How important is it to find your ideal target market? Well its the difference between shooting fish in a barrel and fishing with the right bait..well I don't know, I don't fish, but thats what I would imagine. Sure you can cast a wide net and hope you will catch as many fish as possible, but you'll find yourself throwing a lot of them back. Chances are if you're in Network Marketing at some point you've heard that your target market is anyone with skin or with a pulse. Not true. And this way of thinking will leave you extremely frustrated, especially when it comes to building your business on social media. I have worked with 100's of people, and I can tell you, many of them were not the right fit for me and vice versa...that's why so many people you recruit into your business will quite at some point, because you are not attracting the right people into your business. If you want to attract the kind of people you actually want to do life and business with, keep reading...

Finding your target market online is a combination of creating the right content and having enough visibility to get it in front of enough of the right people with consistent exposure. You need your presence online to be clear, congruent, and consistent...meaning you need clarity on who you are speaking to, your messaging needs to be congruent, and your visibility needs to be consistent. Thats why I teach people to focus on showing up strong on one platform when they start, rather then trying to be everywhere. And why I teach them to speak to one person, rather then diluting their message to reach as many people as possible. You just can't speak to everyone, nor can you please everyone. Remember you are looking for your people, and thats why knowing your target audience is so important and will make your life so much easier in the long run.

The first thing you need to think about is the problem that you solve. How do you help people? What is the benefit people will get from working with you? Brainstorm the pain points your ideal customer has that you can help them with. What might they be experiencing or feeling? Try and think about the emotions that might come up with the problem they have...people make decisions emotionally and justify them rationally. Once you have this list, you want to create content that will educate, inspire and entertain them that is focused on driving attention, engagement, and conversation around your products and services as their solution.

Your story is one of the most powerful tools in your tool belt when it comes to finding your target audience. Nothing resonates more with your future customers and team then a story that they can relate to and bond with your message and brand. This is what inspires the know like and trust factor. I will tell you straight up, I'm not going to do business with people I don't like. No way. When I spend my money I want to feel good about who I spend it with, knowing I can trust that they're not going anywhere, and that the product and service I'm getting is convenient, consistent, and quality. So really think long and hard about your story and your truth. Think about the challenges, struggles, and wins you've experienced along the journey.  Know yourself and put yourself out there with confidence, because this is how you find your people. You will not be for everyone, and you don't need to be. You are the secret sauce to your success. You can have all the right scripts and formulas for success, but you need to bring your unique perspectives, opinions, beliefs and values into the mix. And remember, we are in the lifestyle business, so make sure you are sharing bits of the way you live your life to inspire others to create their life by design too.

Now that you've done the foundational work of discovering your truth and message, and understanding how you help others, you want to define the traits of your ideal customers and teammates. What is the avatar of the kind of person you want to work with? What are their demographics? What personality characteristics do they have? What is the mindset they pride themselves on? What skills do they already possess? What is their level of leadership and circle of influence? These are all important things to think about when you are designing your ideal partnerships for your business. Business is a lot like dating, it's a relationship business, and you need to know what you're looking for, but you also need to make sure you are being that which you want to attract.

Once you've done this work, its time for you to start creating content on these topics so you can answer the important questions your ideal target audience has, solve the problems they are seeking answers to, and overcome the objections that they may have. Get really consistent at showing up and putting your congruent message out there to attract the right people who you are looking to work with.
