With technology today there are so many ways to scale your business with automation, but today we're going to focus on my favourite, which is email marketing. There's a reason why digital marketing experts place so much value on this strategy over bots and messaging apps, and we're going to talk about this and the mistakes you want to avoid when using this strategy for your business.
Why Email Marketing?
Email marketing is the next step in the process of lead generation. Once you've generated a new lead from your front end offer, you need to have a way to nurture the relationship with your prospective clients and customers so you can build trust and be viewed as an authority in their eyes. And once you get them on your list, you need to know how to keep their attention.
It's a lot easier to keep someone's attention in email as it is to keep it as they scroll through their social media feeds. And experts know that we have very little control over the viewership and algorithms on social media, and we also do not own social media. If something happened to the platform, or your account was shut down (which happens) you could lose everything.
Building trust and authority through email marketing
But like social media, it's important to remember that email marketing is not just about selling, and if this is your primary focus with any strategy, you will lose followers and subscribers. In every form of content you create, you need to lead with value, useful advice, unique perspective, and entertainment. You want to keep your messaging consistent, but short, friendly, and direct. Make sure the information you're sharing is accurate, insightful, and aim to create an aha moment for your viewers.
The goal here is to become their go-to expert and for them to get to know you, like you, and trust you. So remember to only sell something you really believe in, and like social media, 80% is value, and 20% is offers that support that value and how you help people. Mistakes to avoid
Yes email marketing can be a bit complicated at the beginning, but this is a skillset worth learning, and if you've read my 5 Minute Guide to Lead Generation, you know the value this strategy can bring to your business.

But done the wrong way, it can harm your business. And where most entrepreneurs fail with email marketing is mistaking this strategy for advertising instead of marketing. So here are a few key things to remember when it comes to lead generation and nurturing your leads.
- Don't send ads
- Don't trick your readers with click bait and titles that don't reflect your email content
- Don't over promise and under deliver
- Don't give it all away in the first email, leave them anticipating what is coming next
- Be consistent with this strategy and consistent with your messaging
- Focus on quality content and quality subscribers
- Niche down. A targeted strategy equals an engaged audience
And last but not least. Don't sell crap you don't believe in, or try to sell too many things to your readers...it will only dilute your brand, your message, and make them feel like you care more about money then about helping them. If you want your readers to know your value, you have to first know your own, so really take some time to think about what you want to be known for and how you want to serve your people.
