5 Steps to Prospect Cold Market leads for your Network Marketing Business.

Are you struggling to prospect and recruit new people into your network marketing business? I remember feeling lucky if I could bring 1 new person in each month...until I learned how to do it correctly, authentically, and ethically. When you learn how to become a professional networker, and you start showing up like an entrepreneur in your business, there is a shift that takes place. You stop chasing people and you become a magnet for success. This shift is a combination of mindset and skillset you need to develop if you want to grow and become successful in this profession.

As entrepreneurs it’s important for us to be relevant and to always be learning and educating ourselves on the best practices. The principles don’t change, but the tools evolve over time. When I turned away from the old school practices, and started using social media and modern strategies to build my business...lets just say, it wasn't well received. I was using a relevant tool and I was excited to embrace it. But instead of being honoured for my creativity and entrepreneurship, I was constantly being met with resistance. And this is a common problem I see in the home business industry. Entrepreneurs are afraid to be themselves and they are being told that social media doesn't work, yet there are many people creating lucrative incomes with these platforms and living the dream lifestyle. I want to help you do that with these simple steps.

Step 1: Prospecting Mindset

So first of all, you need to get your head right. Does social media work? Absolutely! It is a solid strategy to build a lucrative business, but like all strategies, you need to pick one and stick with it for more than a couple of weeks. This year our team as a whole reached $30 million in sales, sponsored 7900 new distributors, and brought in 114,000 new customers...all through social media.

❌No home parties
❌No presentations
❌No phone calls
❌No coffee shop meetings
❌No hotel meetings
❌No nights and weekends away from family
❌No chasing our warm market
❌No samples or demo products

That is a lot of time and money saved! So you just have to decide for yourself, what is the strategy that is going to bring you the most joy and the desired results you want to have? Yes I was getting results with the above strategies, but I was exhausted doing all the things and never really moving the needle forward. And sure these old school strategies might seem simple, but then why weren't they duplicating? People want time freedom and they want financial gain. So the more accessible and simple you can make it for people, the more likely they are to get to work. When they get to work, they create results, and when they create results, they stay!

Step 2: Understand and develop your personal brand

There are many systems for success, but the secret sauce comes down to you. So what I'm going to teach you today is to support you to become excellent and to shine as you. I'm going to show you how to work smarter, not harder in 2019, and how to take action to achieve measurable results.

The first thing you need to understand about creating a brand is the difference between marketing and sales. The home party and presentation training are a sales strategy for when you are in front of people. Sales is not the same as marketing or prospecting, so this training cannot be transferred onto social media. People don't come to social media to be sold, but they come to connect and they look for answers to their problems. And really, you shouldn't be the one doing the selling. More on that in step 4.

So what is the difference between marketing and selling? Marketing is what you do to build credibility and trust with your audience so they will be open to hearing how you can solve their problems. Sales is the process that starts once they have said they are open to hearing more and you share the actual information with them. But too many network marketers are selling on social and they're skipping the important steps...story telling, building trust, giving value, connecting, and asking. You have to stop making it about you, and remember that you are here to serve your audience.

And the way to do that is through personal branding. People buy from people they know like and trust. So your content needs to  create value and be something that your audience can connect to. It needs to educate and inspire them to want to learn more. Why should they work with you? Why should they buy from you?

Step 3: Talk to humans

When someone tells me they are working hard but not getting any results, the first thing I ask them is how many conversations they've had this week. Posting and creating content is important, and it's a great way to create leverage and share your message. But in order to warm up your algorithm and increase the value of your content, you need to be a human first and a marketer second.

Spend time engaging in the newsfeed. Connect with people one on one and develop relationships. Wish people happy birthday and love on their posts. Be interested in them and ask questions about their life. And ask people if they're open to new opportunities. Or if they're open to trying something that could help them. Typically this is known as prospecting, but I prefer the terms connecting or networking with my community. This allows me to get to know people and build authentic connections, and business just flows when you're in the right head space.

Step 4: Use the tools

I remember hours of doing "workshops", sitting through presentations, and discussing comp plans with people at Starbucks. I'm fairly social, and I am all about working hard, but why work hard when you can work smart? Didn't we all come to this profession for more time with our family? Or to have more time to do the things we love? So why spend hours doing something that can take minutes?

The truth is, most people don't have time for this anymore. If they don't have time to meet you to hear about your product or service, and they haven't seen you provide valuable information about why they should be interested, then they are not going to have time to work the business. People are watching what you do and asking themselves if they can do it too. It has to be simple. So if you're not seeing duplication or sponsoring humans, this could be why.

  • Use a video created by your company or leadership
  • Create an opportunity video yourself
  • Use groups to expose your prospects to the social proof

Whatever you do, make it simple. Make it convenient. Remember they are simply taking a look, so the commitment level at this point is low. A tool allows them to have control over the process and check out the info when it works best for them.

Step 5: Use a solid follow up system

I think we all know where the fortune is. People are busy. People have doubt. How you show up in  your business is what gets people paying attention to you. Show them you are committed. Most people aren't going to purchase or sign up right away. People make decisions slowly and they change their mind quickly. Develop a follow up strategy for yourself and  your team if you don't already have one. Your people need multiple exposures. This is why our ATM system works so well. It does most of the work for us.

Now follow up doesn't mean constantly hounding someone about your business. But you should stay connected with people and what is going on in their lives too. When they're ready, you want them to think of you! My mentor is amazing at this, and you know who I thought of first when I was ready to make a change? That's right, the person I had built a relationship with and who served the most. He showed me how amazing it would be to work with him, and I've not for one second regret my decision to leave a company I was with for 6 years who undervalued my worth.

System for success

Here’s the thing, there are many strategies that work. And success duplicates when you do the work. So you have to ask yourself, what do you want to be doing and what do you want your lifestyle to look like while you’re building a business?

Personally I don't want to be in your living room selling products to your family and friends, or spending an hour reviewing the comp plan with someone who hasn't even qualified themselves as a good business candidate. I also don't want to be driving home late at night, eating junk food on the road, and missing out on dinner with my family. I love being able to seek out A Players for our team and work with people who are excited and motivated to build this legacy with me.

Want to learn how to create success on social media, duplicate results,  and have the laptop lifestyle? Or at least create a side hustle that won't drain you of all your energy? Then you need to skill up and get focused on what is working right now.

  • Attracting and generating leads
  • Connecting and building authentic relationships
  • Personal Branding
  • Massive duplication
  • Work from anywhere you want
  • Actually have fun and feel good about what you do
