When I got started in my Home Business I started out like most people do in our industry. I began making a list of all the people I knew, and I started making calls to book appointments and ask my friends to host for me so I could meet more people. So essentially I wasn’t “selling” to my friends and family directly, but I was asking them to take the time and money required to host to help me build my business, and asking them to trust me to treat their networks well. As someone who is very genuine, I was able to help my friends feel comfortable, but it seemed like each time I went to book my calendar full of events, I was the one actually very uncomfortable with putting my business in the hands of others and having very little control over my audience or the outcome of the event. I spent a lot of time brushing up my skillset on inviting, hostess coaching, presenting, closing, and following up; I was good at it, but I didn’t enjoy it. It took up a lot of my time and took me away from my family, and I felt like I just had another full time job.
Like most network marketers, I came into this business to work smarter not harder, and my gutt just kept telling me there had to be a better way. How could I reach more people, expose the opportunity to chase people, and essentially leverage the internet to make a bigger impact, without sacrificing time away from my family? I wanted people to come to me because they saw the value of what I could do for them with my products and with my opportunity. It’s simple to make a good impression, but it’s challenging to paint that vision for someone in a small window of time. Most people will not get it the first time they hear it, or it may not be the right time, so it’s important to have a system for nurturing these relationships and providing education. That’s what we do in network marketing; we’re story tellers, we educate, inspire, nurture, and sort.
I used a lot of different methods to bring my business online; first using old school methods coupled with technology, like facebook parties, networking in groups, fan pages, and social media recruiting, and I met people in life and brought them to my social media to build a relationship with me. Over time I learned new skill sets that required less of my time and were far more effective. If you’re new to network marketing, these terms may be unfamiliar to you, but I encourage you to learn them if you want to build it BIG!
Once I learned the power of social media even with the simple strategies I was using, I went back to my experience as a branding marketer, and I applied it to my home business. I began to focus on building the brand of Johanna Hunt, building an audience and community, and creating educational content that I could use over and over again to share with my people. When I started my business, the best advice I got from our top earners was to always be serving others and there is no better way to serve others then using the principles of Attraction Marketing.
